Stretchers:

City Art manufactures made-to-measure adjustable cedar stretchers suitable for canvases of all sizes. City Art stretchers are lightweight, stable and easy to assemble. They are used by artists, conservators and museums throughout the country. They can be made in various thicknesses and from the small to very large. We have successfully made adjustable cedar stretchers up to 6 metres x 3 metres.

Using the traditional wedge system, each corner of the stretcher can be adjusted in two directions to allow for the accurate stretching of canvases. Larger stretchers are given extra support with the addition of timber crossbars for ideal rigidity. These crossbars are fully mortised and completely adjustable thanks to the easy-to-use wedge system. We are also happy to provide quality linen, to stretch and prime the linen in preparation for painting, or to stretch completed paintings on to City Art stretchers.
