About
Lyttelton-based artist Emma Wallbanks is currently studying a Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts. Her artistic practice takes cues from philosophy and the study of semiotics and visual linguistics. Utilising abstraction and an interlacing of imagery she positions her works between factual recognition and emotively muffled, at times bizarre, readings. Manipulation of photography and film allows her to recontextualise imagery, conceptually layering vernacular histories.
