The Ship of Dreams – Kathryn Madill
In The Ship of Dreams Kathryn Madill continues her explorations of disquieting spaces and enigmatic imagery. Her characters journey through murky landscapes towards or from an unknown destination. Ghostly figures and animals voyage and wander together in contemplative silence. Deliberately ambiguous, Madill invites us to impart our own meanings and voice onto her works.
When I was a teenager I was taught formal watercolour technique, and I have often come back to watercolour painting through my life, sometimes as a grounding exercise. With these recent paintings I have enjoyed very much “playing” with the paint, and pushing my boundaries, experimenting with letting the paint move freely and giving water just as much a part to play in the process as the colour itself. – Kathryn Madill, 2022
