now that I’m listening, it’s deafening

Ōtautahi Christchurch-based artist Saskia Bunce-Rath’s significant new body of artwork explores her visions and experiences of nature. A sacred, spiritual entity glimpsed, discovered, through the modern landscape. Her scenes are rendered in embroidery thread containing a vivid surreality and gravity, alive with colour and movement.

grinning and grinning at the moon as it passes me bySaskia Bunce-Rath
in the evening the birds are loud, I lie in bed and listen to them through the wallsSaskia Bunce-Rath
the world receding from me like a shadowSaskia Bunce-Rath
a glow radiates over the faraway hills and shadow men wander the pathwaysSaskia Bunce-Rath
I whisper into the wind, and fall away into the growing pool of blueSaskia Bunce-Rath
we forget, sometimes for years at a timeSaskia Bunce-Rath
this is where I dream, always of the tall gum treesSaskia Bunce-Rath
now that I’m listening, it’s deafeningSaskia Bunce-Rath
and then you’ll melt so suddenly and quietly into the presentSaskia Bunce-Rath
